Dear Mum and Dad.....

For our homework we had to find out facts about a planet. Then for writing we had to write a postcard to our parents saying that we were on holiday on that planet. This is mine.

Dear Mum and Dad,

It’s raining here on Venus. The heavy clouds that surround me are made of mercury, hydrocarbons and sulphuric acid, that makes the most corrosive acid found in the rain in the whole solar system. The clouds also hold in the heat. The tour guide, Terry, tells me that this planet is the hottest in the solar system, with temperatures reaching a sweltering 500 degrees. Thank goodness I packed my sunscreen! I have to wear a special suit if I want to go outside because the atmosphere is made mostly out of Carbon Dioxide.

You may be able to see me if you look very hard in the morning or evening. Venus is often mistaken for a star.

I can walk normally here. I think it’s because the gravity is similar to Earth’s. So far I have been to one of Venus’s volcanoes and  fallen down a crater.

Missing you,

Love from Georgina.
